Morning and Evening Skin Care. Is it all the same?

During the day, our skin becomes exposed to numerous bacteria, harsh weather conditions, carbon monoxide, UV rays, and germs. Despite these looming threats, the glowing skin you deserve is waiting for you. How can it be you wonder? Following these steps will have you on your way.

It is important to know that proper skin care is necessary in the morning and at night, but that’s not all. Keeping yourself hydrated is a must. Think 8 cups are enough? Not if you drink coffee like me! Remember to take into account drinks that have caffeine or alcohol, for every one of those types of drinks, tag a couple extra glasses of water on to those original 8 glasses. Last but certainly not least…. My favorite of them all…. Get the sleep you need and deserve. Your body and mind will thank you.

Know thy makeup. Unfortunately some products are not so friendly to your skin and can cause irritation. I recommend using only the best ingredients for skincare like those found in the PCA Skin Care line.

I know you’re thinking that adopting complicated skin care procedures can disrupt your routine especially when you are either extremely tired at night or have to get up at dawn. However convenient applying the same product in both morning and evening may be, it’s not the way to your best skin ever.

Morning skin care routine

No one wants to spend ages on their skin before sunrise. A simple, quick, and yet effective cleansing process is ideal. Your skin may have less exposure at night, but it also accumulates oil and bacteria. Usually, hair products find their way onto the pillowcase, blankets, or the sheets. Drooling may also contribute including foreign particles and sweat. And btw,ew. The good news is that when your body is well-relaxed it is able to get rid of these accumulated toxins and oil. The bad news? By the time morning comes, your skin is sweaty and covered in it!

Let’s break it down

Step I - Use a mild facial wash to get rid of the accumulated oil. If you have dry or sensitive skin try PCA’s Creamy Cleanser. This hydrating cleanser gently removes dirt and makeup without stripping dry, sensitive skin of moisture. For normal or combination skin, PCA’s Facial wash is the perfect gentle cleanser to removes makeup, oil, dirt and environmental impurities.

Step II – Nourish your skin with a toner after cleansing. Experts recommend a product with antibacterial ingredients to protect your skin.

This expert recommends PCA’s Nutrient Toner to remove dirt, oil, and debris, and prevent free radical damage while giving the skin an extra boost of hydration.

Step III – If your eyes are the window to your soul, take good care of them. The areas under your eyes need extra attention. Apply eye cream to reduce puffiness and dryness. PCA’s Ideal Complex® revitalizing eye gel treat dark circles, puffiness, wrinkles, and sagging eyelids. Added bonus? It will keep early wrinkles at bay.

Step IV – Apply a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin. No matter if you have oily, dry, sensitive or combination skin, there exists a perfect product for you. PCA’s Hydrator Plus Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is the perfect daytime moisturizer. It offers hydration and broad spectrum UV protection in one product.

Evening Skincare Routine

Help your skin hydrate, repair and replenish itself during the night by following simple yet effective steps below.

Step I – If you have any makeup on, remove every trace using a cotton pad or a smooth damp cloth. Most heavy coats do not come out easily without a makeup remover. If you possess one, apply it gently with your fingers, and the excess makeup will come off. Rinse with water thoroughly.

Step II – Wash using PCA’s Facial Wash and warm water to remove the remaining dirt and oil.

Step III – Hydrate again! Using a moisturizer serum does wonders, especially after thorough cleansing. Try PCA’s C-Quench® Antioxidant Serum. This will relax your skin as well as protect it from hair products on your pillow or bed sheets.

Step IV – Don’t forget the area beneath your eyes. Apply a coat of PCA’s Ideal Complex® restorative eye cream and tap gently with your ring finger to ease the pressure and distribute the ingredients evenly.

Step V – Always have a night cream in your drawer. It provides extra hydration for a smoother, glowing skin. Try PCA’s Collagen Hydrator to deliver intense hydration

Difference between Morning and Evening Skincare Routine

People have varying beliefs about skin care protection. Some may opt for a quick cleansing procedure while others prefer a long and relaxing treatment. However, a simple daily routine can save you time as well as money if you invest in the right moisturizer or cream. As a professional esthetician, I provide a wide range of serums, moisturizers, and cream to protect your specific skin. As such, you have morning and evening options to ensure your skin glows. Both routines provide desirable outcomes, but their difference lies with the products used as well as time.

The morning pattern needs to be simple and quick. You are usually worried about the sun's damaging capabilities and exposure to harmful bacteria. Therefore, you will tend to use appropriate sunscreen and anti-bacterial products. Note that, the skin products respond well to a clean surface which is why your face should undergo thorough cleansing. Ensure that you gently massage slowly to prevent irritation. Then follow the above morning routine steps.

At night, spare extra time to remove all traces of makeup and oil. Lukewarm water does wonder not only to the skin but also the facial muscles. They relieve stress and leave your pores breathing fresh air. Unlike in the morning, your skin is extra sensitive during the evening because of the sun or cold weather. Prolonged exposure leaves it fragile and prone to irritation even from a simple scratch. Before applying makeup remover, dab your face with a warm towel or cotton wool. It soothes the skin enough to allow a gentle touch.

The main purpose of a morning skincare routine is to protect your skin from the sunlight. Avoid buying products without understanding your skin type. Just because your friend's face glows with a specific serum doesn't mean yours will have the same outcome. If you have dry skin, settle for the appropriate moisturizing cream and vice versa. The first step to perfect skin includes knowing what works for you and what doesn't. Seeking expert opinion when you do not understand your skin type is the only way to truly customize your perfect routine.

Creating a custom care skin routine will have you on your way to overcome skin-related issues like aging, uneven skin tone, acne, sensitivity, and discoloration.
